Kohanaiki Releases Hale Mai`a Town Homes

The Warren Sunnland-designed homes offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and year-round sunsets.

Kohanaiki, the first new development on the Big Island of Hawaii in nearly a decade, recently announced the official release of its Hale Mai`a Town Homes. Designed by accomplished Hawaiian architect Warren Sunnland, the 20 new two-story residences are situated between the sixth and ninth fairways of Kohanaiki’s Rees Jones-designed golf course. The debut of these residences, the second finished product to be offered within the emerging private community, follows the December release of 12 luxurious single-family custom Hales designed by Shay Zak.

The Hale Mai`a Town Homes feature three-bedroom homes with optional guest suites providing spectacular panoramic views that take full advantage of Kohanaiki’s setting on 1.5 miles of Kona coastline.

“I am proud to have been involved in the design of Kohanaiki’s town homes; the finished product is a labor of love, and one that came together due to a shared effort and vision among myself, Claire Ownby, and the incredible Kohanaiki team on-site,” said architect Warren Sunnland. “The ocean-facing homes feature authentic Hawaiian architectural sensibilities, evoking style from the 1930s and 1940s pre-war era. The character of the homes is ideal for those seeking a casual yet well-appointed lifestyle, featuring unique elements such as painted finishes rather than natural exposed woods; state-of-the-art appliances, fixtures and hardware; and spectacular views in common areas as part of the homes’ ‘reverse living’ layout.”

Sunnland conceived idyllic Hawaiian beach houses inspired by the natural beauty of the destination, using eco-sensitive building practices that respect the site’s environmentally sustainable infrastructure. Starting at $2.5 million, the Hale Mai`a Town Homes feature spacious floor plans ranging in size from 2,143 to 2,335 square feet, with a charming 1,100-square-foot lānai. The ground levels are graced by retreats and guest rooms, opening to an expansive lānai and lushly landscaped private yards. The upper levels come complete with master suites as well as great rooms and kitchens that feature tongue-and-groove vaulted ceilings. For all residences, Kohanaiki offers optional upgrades on the interior finishes, as well as a separate guesthouse, swimming pool and spa.

The debut of the Hale Mai`a Town Homes, the first of which are scheduled to be completed in February 2015, coincides with the start of construction on a 50,000-square-foot clubhouse at Kohanaiki. Designed by acclaimed architect Shay Zak, the clubhouse will feature a pro shop, world-class spa by Tracy Lee, bowling alley, theatre, and restaurant with vast ocean views. It is expected to be ready for members December 2015.
