A ‘Sophisticated Yet Sustainable’ Spa

Less water, more style: that was the approach to the Sozo Bath, the latest innovation from Diamond Spas. The stainless-steel bath is designed with tapered inside walls, which minimizes water usage; the tub’s reclined design reduces the amount of water it takes to fill it.

The tub’s design is not only appealing for its eco-friendly aspect, but for its sleek design, according to Krista Payne, marketing manager at Diamond Spas.

“A stainless-steel tub is rarely seen and the sheer design is a very hip modern arrangement. The tub becomes the centerpiece of the room,” she says.

The Sozo is retailing at $12,400. Custom upgrades, such as copper, jet systems and whirlpools, are also available.

New York City Designer Offers ‘Luxe’ Approach

Growing up in a home where every dinner was a proper affair, down to the “good china and silverware,” designer Jonathan Partridge has a formal approach to the world around him. So it’s no surprise that this philosophy became the inspiration for his line of luxury furnishings, dubbed The Luxe Collection, which launched in May.

“My draw into luxury was how I approach life in general. Even in fashion, I don’t buy things that are not investment pieces,” he explains. “I really wanted to put together a collection that spoke [of] my personal aesthetic: elegant, sophisticated and timeless.”

One of the key pieces is his Classic Dining Table, which retails at about $8,000. The round table includes eight triangular leaves that extend its 66-inch diameter to 88 inches. It’s a very “wow” piece, and the woodwork is “exquisite,” Partridge adds.

Above it all

Like many New Yorkers, Denise LeFrak Calicchio and Roberta Model Amon often found themselves walking through the city streets, looking up and “wondering what it was about,” Amon says.

Calicchio, a prominent Realtor, pooled her connections with Amon, and the idea behind their book Rooftop Gardens was born. The nearly 200-page volume is a delightful showcase of what many New Yorkers never get to see: the terraces, gardens, balconies and conservatories of private residences all across the boroughs.

“I’ve been in some of the most fabulous apartments, seen the most fabulous art collections, but when [homeowners] walk out on their terrace, something happens — they light up and they have so much pride,” says Calicchio.

The pair saw more than 50 spaces and narrowed it down to 28 selections, including Japanese-inspired oases, art-adorned terraces and more.

Total Suspense

The kitchen is no longer simply a place to prepare meals; it’s the command center of the home. With this in mind, designer Fu-Tung Cheng has unveiled the Cheng Collection of stainless-steel range hoods from Zephyr, one of which takes its name and shape from an unlikely source: aerial performance art.

Appropriately dubbed the Trapeze, this range hood’s sleek, sloping arc was designed “to create open sight lines in an island kitchen,” explains Arcadio Lainez, the director of marketing at Zephyr. “Putting in a big and massive box interfered with seeing outside toward the deck or patio or seeing your guests. [It’s] pro-style but really low-profile.”

Despite its delicate look, this range hood can definitely take the heat from the typically powerful, high-end ranges found in a luxury kitchen, Lainez says. The Trapeze is currently offered at around $5,200.
The book is now widely available and is being featured in dozens of independent bookstores and museums throughout New York City.
