The Most-Expensive Home In…(Insert Your State Here)

Though luxury-dense states such as California, New York and Florida continually top the news for total number of high-end properties or for having residential sales prices in the stratosphere, we’re here to tell you high-end living is alive and well in the remaining 47 states in the U.S. as well.

As a luxury-market watcher, you no doubt knew this, however, our annual Ultimate Homes issue is the only place you can find a nationwide list of the most expensive homes for sale not only in these few places, but in all states (see the complete list here). As a staff, we here at Unique Homes love this list, as it gives us a rare view of luxury in 52 distinctive shapes, sizes, styles and prices (all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S Virgin Islands).

In addition, there is a bevy of “fun” items and information, starting with the fact that there is a nearly $149 million difference between the highest- and lowest-priced homes on this list (can you guess which 2 states they are?). And, of course, a broad spectrum of great homes, including a $17.8 million, 50,000-square-foot estate in Birmingham, Alabama, and a $3 million Rapid City, South Dakota, home that is described as not only the first Smart Home in this area, but also boasts a large guesthouse that is on the National Historic Register. How’s that for a little bit of everything…just in one house!
