Venice Garden & Home Tour Promises Spirit and Whimsy

The Annual Venice Garden and Home Tour 2011 is coming Saturday, May 7.  For one day only, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors are welcome to tour 30 gardens and homes in Venice’s secluded Walk Streets neighborhood and streets south of Venice Boulevard.

Featured properties will highlight the lengths to which architects, landscape designers and homeowners have gone to cultivate unique and lush living sanctuaries. Typically private spaces, hidden behind gates and fences, will be opened up for viewers to draw inspiration and mingle with community members. Lush gardens with quirky design features, relaxed-yet-luxurious interiors and an undeniable spirit and whimsy draw large crowds each year.

Even the neighborhood itself possesses a one-of-a-kind aesthetic, as its homes once served as living quarters for the workers responsible for developing Venice. Later adapted as vacation homes, and then as primary residences complete with modern amenities, local architects and landscapers have added to the distinct nature of the ever-evolving area.

In its 18th year, the tour continues to promote fundraising through presenting financial support to NYA’s Las Doradas Children’s Center, a licensed childcare facility that provides full-time education-based childcare to low-income working families.
