Hyde Park Apartment Sells For Record High
According to Forbes, a $221 million penthouse located in London’s exclusive One Hyde Park sold Friday and topped charts as the most expensive apartment sale ever recorded. The residence, which spans 25,000 square feet over three stories, was sold to a then-anonymous buyer who has since been revealed as Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov.
While it was purchased unfurnished, Akhmetov’s new home comes complete with a wine cellar, bullet-proof windows, security courtesy of former British Special Forces officers and guest amenities, including room service, thanks to a partnership with the neighboring Mandarin Oriental hotel.
Brothers Nick and Christian Candy, highly regarded in the London luxury real estate scene, developed the building that now houses quite a few noteworthy billionaires and moguls. It is suspected Akhmetov will be enlisting Nick Candy’s design firm Candy & Candy to decorate the interior for an estimated additional $97 million.
