Our Spring 2011 Issue is Here

Unique Homes announces the release of its Spring 2011 issue this week. Among more than 120 pages of the finest properties available, you will find our exclusive look at the 40 International Markets to Watch. It’s all part of our special year-long series celebrating our 40th anniversary. We think our list of markets with global cachet is a solid one. What do you think? Here’s what our Editor in Chief, Kathleen Carlin-Russell had to say about this issue in her editor’s letter:

Take a generous helping of pristine beachfront property, a dash of culture and a unique mixture of housing flavors and styles … stir in some cosmopolitan flair and you have the recipe for our markets to watch list. Part two in our year-long anniversary series, this article looks at 40 diverse locales from 23 countries and territories that are on the radar for today’s discriminating, international home buyer.

Each market made the list for a different reason, be it because it is a tried and true high-end address that is holding its value, a new luxury destination, et cetera. Some of the more exotic places on the list include Phuket, Mumbai and Vietnam. There are also a number of European addresses on the list; the Caribbean is well represented; and you’ll hit a U.S. location 16 times before all is said and done.

I loved the sheer variety found in the top 40 and the fact that well-talked-about places sit next to some fairly well-kept secrets. As always, writer Camilla McLaughlin did her homework to give us a truly global view of luxury, with some great tidbits and did-you-know facts thrown in. To find out what city’s high-net-worth population is growing at a startling 20 percent a year, or which location has the cleanest air on earth (according to NASA), turn to page 50.

I mention “beachfront” as one of the main ingredients on our markets to watch list, and while not the only fact setting these markets apart, it was a main component of many of the top 40 locales. St. Maarten, Hawaii, the Bahamas and Miami are all found on the list, and homes from these sought-after locales help create this issue’s exclusive collection of waterfront properties. It’s fitting that a $28.5 million masterpiece in Newport Beach, Calif., graces our cover, and you’ll find other one-of-a-kind residences, such as the $50 million penthouse on the beach in Costa Rica, the $100 million estate on the shores of Lake Tahoe, and more. Quite a few of these properties also will be making it onto this year’s Ultimate Homes list, which ranks the most expensive homes for sale in the U.S. The complete list will be a focal point of the next issue and include homes priced at $20 million or more. If you know of an Ultimate Home in your area, feel free to email me about it at: krussell@uniquehomes.com.
