Google Opts Out of Real Estate Business

Did everyone see the big news yesterday? There has been much speculation that Google would become a huge player in real estate, and some experts predicted Google would usurp all other digital real estate platforms and actually develop a national MLS of sorts. Well, it’s not going to happen. In fact, according to Inman News: “Consumers will no longer be able to find for-sale, foreclosure, or rental properties through the search function on Google Maps, and real estate professionals will no longer be able to upload their listings to Google Base, the company’s classifieds site, which is being replaced by Google Shopping APIs and will not support real estate listings.” Read the full Inman story here. The question people are asking now: Is Google really out of real estate for good, or does the company have something else up its sleeve?

  3. [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Rashawn McMullin, Unique Homes. Unique Homes said: Many thought Google would take over the real estate world. Were we wrong or is there more to this story? http://bit.ly/gjQoZU [...]

  4. Eh, Google are really just an ad network more than anything.
But their preferred way is to do it through the algorithms that they have already set up with their ad network.

Besides I’m sure there might be some other types of regulations involved if they decided to get involved with real estate as well.

But then again it’s Google so you never really know what they’re thinking about.

That’s part of the fun of the company.
