Less than a couple of weeks ago, One Hyde Park grabbed the bragging rights for highest priced sale in the world. Now, a Monte Carlo apartment owned by British property entrepreneur Christian Candy that recently sold for $312 million can make that claim, according to a report in the Financial Times. http://bit.ly/aJ36ga
Posts remembering September 11 filled Twitter last Friday, each giving a very personal snapshot of the day. Most notable, the Washington Post asked followers to comment on where they were on September 11. Many were in high school or middle school classrooms, some say they were too young to have a good memory — time goes by really fast.
For real estate, posts on falling sales, rising prices and a recovery on the verge of stalling tended to dominate Twitter just as similar news consumed the media this week. Various posts alerted us to the latest August stats, which in general reflect a more modest decline after the plunge in July.
Double dip or not, has also been on my horizon since I’ve been writing the next installment of the Unique Homes series on the Road to Recovery. Don’t expect a double dip is the word from a senior research economist at the Cleveland Fed. Check out the story in Housing Wire http://bit.ly/93Vsmhl And this from Jim Cramer via @LeadingrePam, “The economy is about to get much better…..the tone is changing. That’s my theme.”
Positive environmental news is hard to find. Since I am a native Washingtonian, this report about improving conditions in the Potomac River, a watershed for the Chesapeake Bay, caught my eye. http://budurl.com/tu8v. Thanks to @Frank_Cava for the heads up.
Spending more time following the news? You’re not alone.. A new Pew Research Center study says that on a given day, Americans spend 57 minutes getting the news from TV, newspapers or radio, just as they did in 2000. But they spend an additional 13 minutes each day consuming news on the Web — a figure that doesn’t even include stories viewed on cell phones.
Fact or fiction, it doesn’t take long for potential news to float to the surface in Twitter. Last week was buzzing with sightings of a yacht with a very distinctive profile off the California coast. A few days later, Kevin Brass came out with the story. http://bit.ly/c0GpLs
The beat goes on for the recovery in the luxury sector, even in Russia. From @luxuyrsociety, August BMW car sales exceed pre-crises level (the Z4 Roadster is pictured) , and a link to this article in Pravda extolling the growth in demand for luxury autos and other products. http://bit.ly/bTvMZQ
List Mania continues. New York is still No. 1 on the list of the top 10 most global cities. U.S. Drops to ninth place in @forbes annual best countries for business. http://bit.ly/bfygcV
