From Notre Dame to Lake Arrowhead
Vacation homes come in all sizes and shapes, but very few match the profile of luxury presented by this month’s cover, a landmark country estate sited on the tip of its own private peninsula on Lake Arrowhead, roughly two hours by car from Los Angeles.
“It’s rare to find a vacation home of this quality,” observes Joyce Rey, who is listing the home for Coldwell Banker Previews International. Equally uncommon is a property that expresses a classic architectural style with so much discernment. “The owners lived in France and have a great affection for the French Normandy style of architecture,” explains Rey. “They brought craftsmen from France who had worked on the restoration of Notre Dame.”
A good example of the attention to detail can be seen in the multi-colored roof tiles that were imported from the French Burgundy region and created in the 13th-century style. The exterior is composed of honey-colored granite. Inside, Beaumaniere French limestone and warm woods enrich the subdued elegance. Even the kitchen with glazed Douglas fir beams and Parfeuille tile confirms how skillfully the style has been executed. “Epitome of good taste” is another accolade Rey applies to the property.
The two-story living room and adjacent library are especially handsome. The living room’s dramatic vaulted wood ceilings are designed by a master boat builder and evoke the feeling of a boat’s hull, while the tall windows flanking the room capture rolling lawns and Lake Arrowhead sparkling in the background. Both rooms also have a wonderful feeling of ease and comfort that extends throughout the home.
Vicki Smith of Coldwell Banker Sky Ridge Realty is co-listing the property with Rey for $15 million.
