Rising Sales in Marin County Sparks Optimism
The deadline for first-time home buyer and repeat-buyer federal tax credits as well as a boost in consumer confidence have helped increase home sales in Marin County, Calif., according to president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Rick Turley, in an article from dBusinessNews.com.
While luxury home sales in Marin County have increased in the last month, the median sale price has declined, according to Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in the dBusinessNews story. A total of 40 homes sold for $1 million in March, up 21 percent from the previous month and 60 percent from March 2009. The median sale price fell in March to $1,317,500, down 15 percent from the previous month and 26.8 percent from March 2009, according to the Multiple Listing Service data of all homes sold in Marin County for more than $1 million last month.
“There are still challenges ahead for the housing market, including high unemployment and the expectation that another wave of bank-owned properties could hit the market,” said Turley. “Still, I’m encouraged by the overall improvement we’re seeing, especially in sales volume and the faster pace of sales.”
