New To The Market: Energy-Neutral Housing

Lot4-solsticeGoing green is more than incorporating a single eco-friendly product or green component into a home or building. More and more, organizations across the country are focusing their efforts on “net zero” and “near net zero” developments — projects designed to use only about as much power from the public grid as they can save or produce on their own.

In an article, “Builders Zero In on New Goal of Energy-Neutral Housing,” The Wall Street Journal explores one nonprofit organization’s “near net zero” community, the challenges that are faced in building such developments, and what energy officials are saying about these residences.

Rural Development, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Western Massachusetts, is currently building a “near net zero” village near Greenfield, Mass. At this time, Wisdom Way Solar Village has eight residences within its community. For more information on Wisdom Way Solar Village, visit www.ruraldevelopmentinc.org.
