Joe Montana selling home for $49 million

VM_Img_ExtMain_LrgFamous football player Joe Montana has put his California luxury home on the market for $49 million. The 9,700-square-foot home extends into Napa and Sonoma counties and is set on hilly, forested area across 500 acres.

The great room boasts a ceiling with a height of 22 feet, a large space decorated with a hanging tapestry and oversized velvet furniture. In the loggia is the Montana family crest, painted by an artist from the south of France, hung above the fireplace.

Montana’s long time friend and former football player Ronnie Lott claims that his former teammate loved the lifestyle of Italy and even considered moving there, but “after building this house, didn’t have to.”

Another former NFL football player who played with Montana, Steve Bono, says that Montana really enjoyed the privacy of his home, and always felt most comfortable there.

About a decade has been devoted to completing this family retreat, which is almost the amount of time Montana spent playing for the San Francisco 49ers. However, Montana and his wife now chose to live closer to their two sons and have made the decision to sell their property.

A Sonoma home recently sold for $35 million.

Coldwell Banker Previews International and Pacific Union, an affiliate of Christie’s Great Estates, have the listing.
