The Narrowest House in New York City

The slimmest home in New York City proves to have many challenges, including furnishing it in a stylish way. IKEA has taken advantage of this unique $2.7 million offering to offer free furnishings to the buyer.

IKEA, an expert in furnishing small spaces, is offering free design advice, and furniture up to $10,000 to the buyer of the 9-and-a-half-foot wide, 42-foot long house in NYC.

“We’re so in love with small spaces that we’re putting an offer on the table,” says Janice Simonsen, IKEA design expert and spokesperson.

The home, built in 1873, is squeezed between 75 and 77 Bedford Street and is so small that it requires a fraction for its address (75 and 1/2 Bedford Street). The house’s kitchen even contains a custom stove that has all four burners in a single row, unlike the usual two-by-two arrangement, because of its thin nature.
