New Facebook App Allows Promotion of Vacation Properties
A new Facebook application establishes trust for second homeowners and their renters.
Second Porch, the new groundbreaking application, helps homeowners promote vacation properties to friends, friends of friends, and anyone else on Facebook they would like to share with. It overcomes second homeowners’ fear of having to rent to strangers.
The application’s main purpose is to allow travelers and homeowners to connect to list, rent or trade vacation homes through updates, photos, and teasers. Travelers can also post queries for specific trips and homes sought through a feature called “friendsource”.
“Second Porch allows people to easily and tastefully promote their second homes to a trusted network of friends, and if desired, to other members of Facebook who like being able to see that there is a real person connected to the home,” said Brent Hieggelke, co-founder and president of Second Porch.

Second Porch offers a unique look at unique homes. For me, as a vacation rental owner with two properties on Sanibel Island that I consider unique, the social media approach gives me the opportunity to have a more personal relationship with my rental guests. When they contact me, I know a little more about them from their Facebook profile and that gives me confidence. Similarly, I am not an unknown to them as they have the chance to get to know me and my properties as well. It’s a transparent transaction for both sides of the equation!
