Madoff, wine, and Pillsbury

Saw three great items in last week’s Wall Street Journal column by Sara Lin.

1) More information on the Madoff sale in Montauk. Chairman of Vornado Realty Trust, Steven Roth, is the one who purchased Bernard Madoff’s beach house in Montauk, NY, for $9.41 million.

On 1.2 acres, the 3,000-square-foot in Long Island was launched onto the market in September. Receiving a number of bids higher than its asking price, the sale closed Oct. 16.

The property includes four bedrooms, three baths, as well as a deck and pool.

2) Jeff Greene has put a 25-acre estate up for lease in Beverly Hills, California, for $250,000 a month.

In 2006 he bought the unfurnished property for $35 million, spending $15 million and three years finishing it.  At 43,000-square-feet, it contains 11 bedrooms, 14 baths, and a 6,000-square-foot ballroom. It also includes 6 acres of vineyards, which produce 400 cases of wine each year.

3) Offered at $53.5 million, a family compound outside of Minneapolis, which formerly belonged to the baked-goods Pillsbury family, is currently being auctioned.

On 13 acres, the estate includes seven buildings, one of which is a 1918 “brick traditional” house with nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, and nine fireplaces. It also includes a dock and about 1,700 feet of Lake Minnetonka frontage. This property can be split into as many as five parts.

The deadline for bids is December 9.
