Texas has weathered the housing downturn better than other states and Austin is one of the stars, according to a recent report from the Brookings Institution. According to the North Carolina-based Local Market Monitor, Texas metros poised for possible price growth include Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
“We are sort of insulated here from the rest of the country,” says Susan Doyle with Avalon Realty Company of Austin. “We never had the huge price increase so our prices remained fairly steady.”
Like most of the country, home sales are off compared to four years ago, but Doyle says “well-priced houses are definitely moving — even in the luxury market.”
“Austin is still attractive to people moving here from other areas and I think they are surprised by how much they get for the money and how much Austin has to offer with views and lakes and quality of construction,” says Diane Dopson, owner of Diane Dopson properties in Austin.
