It may be summertime, but while you are at the lake or beach you may want to put some thought into that winter vacation home. And you may want to look at Copper Mountain or Winter Park — two Colorado developments that offer year-round activities and are closer to Denver than Aspen or Vail.

Priced at just more than $1.4 million, only two townhomes remain at Copper Mountain’s Union Creek Townhomes West. With four bedrooms, three and one-half baths, a private hot tub overlooking West Ten Mile Creek and a custom island wet bar with slab granite and cherry mahogany finishes, these homes are just steps from the Village and adjacent to the slopes and 35 miles of alpine hiking and biking trails.

And the skiing? Yeah, it’s good. In fact, the United States Forest Service named Copper Mountain “the most nearly perfect ski mountain.”

In Winter Park, Intrawest has three new developments, the most exclusive of which is The Village Lofts. The Lofts, an enclave of 14 townhome-style condominiums, juxtapose an urban design with the mountain surroundings. Perched above the new Village, the three- and four-bedroom luxury residences feature one- or two-story floor plans with kitchen, dining and living areas flowing together. Amenities include Toto, Jado and Kohler bath fixtures, a jetted tub and balconies with Village and mountain views. Prices currently range from $945,000 to $1.349 million.

If you can think of an outdoor activity, it’s probably available in Winter Park. The list includes hiking, golfing, lift-operated mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, boating, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, mushing the huskies, and taking a sleigh ride.
