Ultimate Homes 2009 Slated For June/July
Ultimate Homes, the much-awaited multimedia publication that annually lists the most expensive homes for sale in the United States, will be revamped for 2009, according to Publisher Rick Goodwin. This year, for the first time, Ultimate Homes will be inserted into the June/July issue of Unique Homes magazine.
The move will provide Ultimate Homes with a much wider distribution network than it received in the past. Goodwin said this means advertisers will enjoy a greater value.
“Unique Homes has always been about the most impressive properties,” he said. “In this environment, it just makes more sense to combine them into one product.”
The Ultimate Homes section also will be released as its own print and digital publication, allowing for additional distribution.
Ultimate Homes will feature our exclusive compilation of the most expensive listings in the U.S.—more than 1,000 homes will be included. As always, editorial content will focus on the coveted Top 10 properties.
Last year’s Ultimate Homes ranked more than $19 billion in residential real estate valued at more than $11 million from 37 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Four Things Boomers Seek South Of The Border
John Tuccillo, former chief economist for the National Association of Realtors, spoke to the desires of Baby Boomers during the Inman News Real Estate Connect conference in January in New York City.
Tuccillo, speaking at a forum on international real estate, noted that while money is enerally flowing toward the U.S. from foreign investors to the east and west, he sees the country’s retiring Baby Boomer generation migrating south.
He said Boomers are interested in the Caribbean, CentralAmerica andMexico. They are thinking, he said: “Whatever wealth I have has got to go further there than it does here.”
Boomers are looking for four things in developments closer to the equator, he said. Namely, they want:
- Other Americans in the area
- Access to quality medical care
- Transportation access (so the grandkids can visit)
- And, preferably, an American developer
“A large number of companies in the U.S. have become involved in Central and SouthAmerica,” he added.
